Sukhothai was the first capital of the Thai nation over 700 years ago. The Thai identity that originated way back then is what the Thailand of today has inherited. In order to give due recognition to the extraordinary arts and culture of the Sukhothai period, UNESCO declared Sukhothai a cultural World Heritage Site in 1991

Thailand: Krabi: Phranang Beach

admin May 27th, 2008

My favorite beach and why we came back to Railay, Krabi for the second time. The white-sandy beach is small, shaded, and features a cave and occasional rock climbing beginners. A few vendors sell trinkets, clothes, silk tablecloth, grilled corn, fresh fruits, softdrinks, and snacks like pad thai noodles. Others offer massage and foot scrub services. This is because tourists come here on day-trips to see the sacred cave where locals offer carved penises to the goddess of fertility. If you pick the right time of the day it’s quite and peaceful, as shown in this video

Phitsanulok Thailand

admin May 25th, 2008

Phitsanulok is an important and historic city in lower northern Thailand and is the capital of Phitsanulok Province, which stretches all the way to the Laotian border. Phitsanulok is one of the oldest cities in Thailand, founded over 600 years ago. It is probably best known as the birthplace of King Naresuan, who freed the country from Burmese domination in the late 16th Century, and his brother and successor King Ekathosarot (Sanpet III). As the cross-road between the northern and central regions of the country, it has long been important both for political and strategic reasons, and was fought over many times in centuries past. Phitsanulok was the capital of Thailand for 25 years during the reign of King Boromma Trailokanat of Ayutthaya. Located on the banks of the Nan River, the city was originally a small Khmer outpost known as Song Kwae, before the Khwae Noi River changed its course in the 11th Century A.D. Phitsanulok was also a provincial center of the Angkorian Empire during the Angkorian period
